Heyyyy I'm Matt Correia. Explorer from Los Angeles
You're involved in Reverberation Radio, could you tell us more about this project ?
It's a collective of sound transmissions. It's been going for about 8 years now. 400 weeks, 400 mixes (more at reverberation radio.com)
I remember you telling me that you also have a label, Calico Discos ? Who's behind it ? What's the plan with it ?
The Reverberation gang all has input in Calico Discos but it's mostly run by RP Combs. We've released a few things and curated a few annual events in Bali and Point Reyes. We're excited to let it grow naturally.
Most people knows you because of the Allah-Las but you're also a talented photographer. How did you get into it ? What inspired you to get out of your house and take photographs ?
Thank you. I started shooting still photos and bits of video around 13 years old while exploring Los Angeles for skate spots. I moved to San Francisco to study photojournalism and spent the next few years traveling back and forth between there and Los Angeles chasing interests.
You do a lot of Black & White, what do you like in it ?
I like both b/w and color for different situationsYou are travelling a lot because of your musician carrer, which country/culture inspired you the most and why ?
Mexico has always been an influential place for me. My earliest memories are from trips my family took there. I really relate to how Susan Pitt describes Mexico in the documentary Persistence Of Vision -
"The spirituality of Mexico is very entwined with the overall culture. So when you're there you're not only seeing and feeling what people are doing at that moment in time but you're seeing and feeling they're whole history and all the many things that Mexicans believe in. It's all very out in the light and in the atmosphere in the way people relate to one another and in the many processions and rituals that are constantly going on in Mexico."
Could you tell us your though about what the world is currently leaving ?
Sad for the world currently. We've done a lot of wrong here on Planet Earth. I really hope this situation pushes us to a more sustainable future world wide.
If you could travel back in time (past or future), where would you go and why ?
If you had to listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be ?
Probably something instrumental. A collection of classical symphonies.
